With projects in both Canada and the US, Great Gulf is one of North America’s preeminent residential developers. Founded in 1975, the company has made sustainable urban design and livable communities a focus when designing and building new developments. This strategy has been rewarding-both for investors and for Great Gulf itself, which has been awarded BILD’s Builder of the Year award five times, most recently at the 2019 ceremony.
A look at Great Gulf’s portfolio of projects gives a sense that the company has not only embraced ongoing trends in Toronto’s development industry, but has been an innovative leader in the field. Master-planned communities include a connected and welcoming public realm, created through a clearly defined network of walking and cycling paths. Natural landscapes are preserved and enhanced through the planting of native species and the maintenance of water infiltration levels. In more densely populated area, high-rise buildings are designed to meet LEED standards and surpass the Toronto Green Standards. This has made features such as green energy and LED lighting omnipresent in Great Gulf-developed buildings. In addition, local suppliers are engaged whenever possible to achieve a lower carbon footprint during and after the construction process. Great Gulf guides the entire development process from start to finish, and do so with decades of industry experience.
