Jonathan Wener founded Canderel in 1976, and in his roles as CEO and Chairman he has overseen its growth into one of Canada’s top real estate firms. Despite its expansion across the country (including regional offices in all major Canadian cities), Canderel maintains the same core values that powered its original success. The company’s extensive portfolio includes both residential and commercial properties, and their experience with both is unparalleled in the business.
Canderel is committed to designing and building their developments with the smallest ecological footprint possible. They firmly believe that a such an approach is beneficial for clients and other stakeholders. The company has been at the forefront of environmental-friendliness since the mid-2000s (when the concept was first popularized), and has instituted a company-wide sustainability policy called On the Green Path. In accordance with this policy, Canderel has overseen the construction and maintenance of Boma-and-LEED-certified buildings all over Canada.
Each year, Canderel sponsors the Défi Canderel, an annual fundraising race through the streets of Montreal. Created by Jonathan Wener as an event to benefit cancer research, it has grown into one of Montreal’s premier fundraising events. Generous donors have contributed millions of dollars to the research centres at McGill University and the University of Montreal. Whether through sustainable design or through donations to charity, Canderel is proud to give back to the various communities of which it is a part.
